MATTHEW JONES ... 15/Apr/1999:23:23:41 SERVED ON THE CAN-DO FROM OCT-86 TO JUN-89. SPENT MOST OF OUR TIME IN THE CARIBBEAN (TOUGH DUTY) AND ONE MED CRUISE. WENT TO THE MED AS PART OF THE IOWA'S BATTLE GROUP WHEN KADDAFY WAS TRYING OUT HIS LINE OF DEATH. I STARTED IN DECK DEPT AND ENDED IN OPS. STRANGE TO HAVE SPENT TIME ON A SHIP THAT HAD SO MUCH HISTORY.I HEARD THAT SHE ONCE CAPTURED SOME MODERN DAY PIRATES IN 69. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS.

William E. Polley... 28/Mar/1999:01:57:24 Served aboard Canisteo most of 1958 as yoeman for 1st Lt. Captain J. R. Penland was the skipper, Cdr. E.C. Reynolds was Exec., Ens. Gilfeather was my division officer. The ship was underway most of the time. Was underway in the Mediterranean during a crisis in Beirut July until Oct. without entering port. Later that year the ship collided with aircraft carrier Intrepid causeing extensive damage to her port side. Got transferred while ship was being repaired. Good memories of a good ship and crew, still remember names and faces of those with whom I served, happy to find this page, thanks.......W. E. Polley from Ky.

Mark Attanasio... 30/Nov/1998:23:22:56 Just on a lark I put in a search for the ol CAN-DO and much to my surprise there was a page on the net. I was a crew member from 1977- 1980 in the supply section. Kinda funny how the memories came back just seeing the pictures that were posted. I'll take a look around and see if I can come up with some additional information or pictures to post. Thanks guys for taking the time to put up the page.
